Meet The

Photographer

Hey there! I’m Greg Smith, and I’m a Wasilla, Alaska-based landscape and wildlife photographer. A life-long Alaskan, I was born and raised in a small, rural town in the interior of Alaska. While growing up, I was known to always have a camera in my hand. I deeply enjoyed documenting the sights, places, people, and events around me, and I still do.

After high school I went straight to work doing everything from washing dishes, to road construction, operating heavy equipment to firefighting and pre-hospital emergency medicine. In 2009, my already 9 years as an EMT allowed me the opportunity to work on Alaska’s North Slope oil fields, and I’ve been there ever since. The landscapes and wildlife that I’ve been afforded to see while working on the North Slope has only further fueled my love for photography.

In addition to photography, I’ve always loved being in the outdoors, from camping and boating with my family as a kid, to hiking as an adult, immersed in Alaska is my happy place. As a young adult with a ‘good job’, I was able to travel regularly and consider myself so fortunate to have been able to see over half of the United States and drive the Alcan Highway twice.

In my travels, I also caught the music festival bug, and for several years, I traveled a lot to attend festivals like Lollapalooza, Vans Warped Tour, and several others. All the while, there was a camera by my side, so I could capture those once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

I bought my first DSLR camera in 2014 and quickly decided to put my passion for photography to good use and to show anyone who was interested just how breathtaking Alaska truly is. Alaska’s beauty is all around me … and I love sharing it with you.

Photographing Alaska is something I don’t think will ever grow old for me. That said, I’m always open to expanding my photography skills, and it’s fair to say, I have my bucket list of photography locales and subjects. Whether it is the colorful, vintage car-lined streets of Cuba, the ice caves and aurora in Iceland, the fall colors and bustling docks of the Northeast, or any one of America’s national parks … have camera, will travel. I’d also like to someday combine my love of concerts and festivals with my love of photography and get to do some live event photography. Crossing my fingers, that would be pretty cool!

It’s been awesome being able to share a little about myself with you. Please feel free to reach out if you’d like to know more. I’d love to talk to you about Alaska, photography, or if you have a specific project that you think I’d be interested in. Just say hello@wildak.us, hit me up using my Contact page, or reach out via the socials: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or YouTube; I can’t wait to hear from you!

Warmly,

Greg
